{"id":33607,"date":"2020-12-18T17:14:06","date_gmt":"2020-12-18T17:14:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/nigeria\/?p=33607"},"modified":"2020-12-18T17:14:06","modified_gmt":"2020-12-18T17:14:06","slug":"kankara-miyetti-allah-negotiated-release-of-333-schoolboys-not-boko-haram-gov-matawalle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/kankara-miyetti-allah-negotiated-release-of-333-schoolboys-not-boko-haram-gov-matawalle","title":{"rendered":"Kankara: Miyetti Allah negotiated release of 333 schoolboys not Boko Haram \u2013 Gov Matawalle"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\">Africa-Press<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/nigeria\">Nigeria<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Bello Matawalle, the Governor of Zamfara, has revealed that the Fulani apex socio-cultural organisation, Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN, negotiated the release of the 344 schoolboys who were abducted from Katsina on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The boys, who were kidnapped from the Government Science Secondary School in Kankara, Katsina State, on December 11 and ferried to a forest in the state were released on Thursday with no ransom reportedly paid.<\/p>\n<p>Matawalle told Daily Nigerian that the state was able to secure their release through the help of MACBAN and repentant bandits.<\/p>\n<p>Despite claims by the Boko Haram insurgents that they kidnapped the boys, Matawalle, who is an opposition governor, told Daily Nigerian that \u201cnothing like Boko Haram in this abduction, the bandits did it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Governor revealed that Miyetti Allah leadership and some repentant bandits were employed by the state government to establish contact with the abductors of the students before pleading for their release.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we established contact with them, I persuaded them to release them unharmed. And so they did tonight,\u201d the governor reportedly said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is not the first time we facilitated the release of our people without payment of ransom. Ask anybody, we don\u2019t pay bandits a dime. What we do is to extend an olive branch to them because they also want to live in peace.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs I speak to you, they are on their way to Tsafe, from where they will come to Gusau and sleep. They will begin their journey to Katsina tomorrow morning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Recall the students were kidnapped from their school on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Their release was, however, confirmed by the Katsina State government on Thursday night.<\/p>\n<p>Welcoming their release, Ezekwesili said Nigeria is not being governed and shows characteristics of a failed state.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria.
