{"id":33646,"date":"2020-12-19T18:03:32","date_gmt":"2020-12-19T18:03:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/nigeria\/?p=33646"},"modified":"2020-12-19T18:03:32","modified_gmt":"2020-12-19T18:03:32","slug":"nigeria-will-start-manufacturing-vaccine-soon-nafdac","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/all-news\/nigeria-will-start-manufacturing-vaccine-soon-nafdac","title":{"rendered":"Nigeria will start manufacturing vaccine soon \u2013 NAFDAC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\">Africa-Press<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/nigeria\">Nigeria<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), has announced that Nigeria would soon start manufacturing its vaccines.<\/p>\n<p>The Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye disclosed that achieving the ISO 9001 in June 2019, which is the world\u2019s most recognised Quality Management System (QMS) standard kept Nigeria in good standing to strive to get to the maturity level three which enables manufacturing of its own vaccines.<\/p>\n<p>Adeyeye noted that the agency is leveraging technology to trace vaccines, especially when the COVID-19 vaccines arrive the country.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking during the NAFDAC\u2019s Staff Award Ceremony, she explained that this will enable the agency track and trace vaccines received by patients to ensure that they are safe and monitored for adverse reactions on patients.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith regards to the establishment of the World Health Organization\u2019s (WHO\u2019s) global benchmarking and adoption of international best practices, we want to get to the maturity level three so that Nigeria can manufacture her own vaccines and we are all working on this every day,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Adeyeye added that the agency\u2019s laboratories were being upgraded to international standards using equipment that were compliant to ISO 17025.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur laboratories are changing very rapidly with improvements in new equipment and supplies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur four laboratories that were accredited before I came have received re-accreditation. We have also gotten a new lab \u2013 the Yaba Biologies and Vaccines Lab accredited for the first time.
