Africa-Press<\/a> – Nigeria<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), has called on Nigerian authorities to stop targeting the Bishop of Sokoto Catholic Archdiocese, Matthew Kukah, over his Christmas message.<\/p>\n

DAILY POST had reported that Bishop Kukah accused President Muhammadu Buhari of nepotism like never experienced in the history of Nigeria.<\/p>\n

Kukah, in his Christmas message titled, \u201cA Nation in Search of Vindication\u201d delivered in Sokoto State on Friday, said President Buhari had succeeded in sacrificing the dreams of Nigerians on the altar of nepotism by pursuing Northern hegemony.<\/p>\n

The Bishops message had been drawing criticisms from the President\u2019s friends, political associates and the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.<\/p>\n

Also, the Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, launched an attack on the Bishop.<\/p>\n

MURIC accused Kukah of being a first-class blackmailer.<\/p>\n

Reacting, SERAP in a Tweet via its Twitter handle on Tuesday, insisted that freedom of expression is a fundamental right, adding that Kukah shouldn\u2019t be a target for peacefully exercising his right to freedom of expression.<\/p>\n

\u201cNigerian authorities should stop targeting Bishop Matthew Kukah simply for peacefully exercising his right to freedom of expression,\u201d SERAP tweeted.<\/p>\n

\u201cFreedom of expression is a fundamental right.<\/p>\n
