Africa-Press<\/a> – Nigeria<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>A former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has been arrested for protesting.<\/p>\n

Sowore was arrested in company of other activists during a protest against the Nigerian government in the early hours of Friday, January 1, 2021.<\/p>\n

The protest was organised in Abuja.<\/p>\n

According to Sahara Reporters, police officers attacked and arrested the protesters during a peaceful procession to mark the New Year in Abuja.<\/p>\n

Deji Adeyanju while confirming Sowore\u2019s arrest called on police to release him.<\/p>\n

His tweet read: \u201cPROTEST can never be a crime in a democracy, tyrant Buhari free Sowore now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sowore before his reported arrest had on his Twitter page called for a nationwide crossover protest against President Buhari\u2019s government.<\/p>\n
