United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Stuart Symington has stated why the US is interested in issues challenging Nigeria\u2019s democracy.<\/p>\n

Symington on Monday said U.S is interested in democracy of Nigeria because \u201cwhatever happens to Nigeria affects the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

He, therefore, urged Nigerians to stand up and defend democracy, stressing that everything lies only in the hands of Nigerians.<\/p>\n

This was disclosed in a statement shared by U.S. Embassy on its official Twitter handle.<\/p>\n

The statement read: \u201cWhy does the United States support Nigeria\u2019s democracy? Because what happens in Nigeria will affect the world and it depends on you. It depends on every Nigerian,\u201d Stuart Symington.<\/p>\n

DAILY POST had over the weekend reported that many Nigerians, as well as the United States, the European Union and the United Kingdom have condemned the suspension of CJN Onnoghen.<\/p>\n

But the Federal Government in a statement issued by Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, on Saturday, warned against foreign interference into the nation\u2019s affairs.<\/p>\n

Shehu said such statements are capable of creating apprehension, distrust among citizens or undermining the transparency and acceptability of outcomes of the nation\u2019s electoral process.<\/p>\n
