The Morocco-Nigeria gas pipeline is not the far-fetched dream that a study from Fitch Solutions said it was last week.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Rabat \u2013 African news outlets reported that both Nigeria and Morocco finished the feasibility study for the construction of the\u00a0Nigeria-Morocco<\/a>\u00a0gas pipeline.<\/p>\n

The 2016-initiated project is set to be 5,660 kilometers of pipeline and supply 15 countries in West Africa, according to\u00a0Punch<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Nigerian outlet the\u00a0Nation<\/a>\u00a0quoted Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation\u2019s Group Managing Director Maikanti Baru who said that the stakeholders are currently making the pre-Final Investment Decision. He added that the pipeline will enhance the region\u2019s industries.<\/p>\n

Minister of State for Petroleum Resources Ibe Kachikwu said that African nations would invest around $2 billion to develop a \u201cfinancing body that will fund the energy sector,\u201d\u201d according to the Nation.<\/p>\n

Baru also called on\u00a0African countries<\/a>\u00a0to help develop infrastructure.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday, Nigeria and Morocco are collaborating to construct a gas pipeline that will traverse at least 15 West African countries and connect the existing Europe gas pipeline.\u201d<\/p>\n

Both officials made their remarks on the project during the Nigeria International Petroleum Summit in Abuja.<\/p>\n

Several senior officials from\u00a0Africa<\/a>,\u00a0Europe<\/a>, and America participated in the symposium.<\/p>\n

Baru added that the pipeline between Morocco and Nigeria would meet \u201cthe needs of consumers for heating and other uses\u201d in 15 countries.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe see gas as a fuel to take Africa to the next level. New gas discoveries have been recorded offshore Senegal,\u00a0Mauritania<\/a>,\u00a0Mozambique\u00a0<\/a>and are in various stages of development.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kachikwu acknowledged that the project is facing some challenges, including \u201coil pricing, investment limitation,\u00a0President Trump<\/a>\u00a0and so many other things.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last week, Fitch Solutions \u00a0released a study listing some of the obstacles to the project\u2019s completion.<\/p>\n

The study emphasized that political and security concerns in some of the countries through which the pipeline will pass may cause delays.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe envisioned pipeline route is poised to have high exposure to political risks,\u201d the report noted, referring to feasibility studies\u2019 results.<\/p>\n

The construction will be phased to meet the growing needs of the countries as well as those of Europe for 25 years.<\/p>\n

In June 2018,\u00a0King Mohammed VI<\/a>\u00a0received Nigerian President\u00a0Muhammadu Buhari<\/a>\u00a0in Morocco. Both leaders co-chaired a signing ceremony of three cooperation projects, including the pipeline.<\/p>\n

Morocco and Nigeria signed an agreement in Rabat on May 15, 2017, committing both parties to jointly fund a feasibility study on the project.<\/p>\n
