Africa-Press<\/a> – Nigeria<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>National Population Commission, (NPC), has commenced area demarcation exercise across the 17 local government areas of Yobe State.<\/p>\n

Mai Aliyu Muhammad, the NPC\u2019s Federal Commissioner, who monitored and supervised the exercise in Tarmuwa local government area, noted that the ongoing demarcation exercise was extremely important as it would determine what people stand to gain in terms of social amenities from the government.<\/p>\n

He added that the exercise did not only determine population but also the quality of the population \u2013 what people needed and what were the various requirements of the various segments of the society.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome of the essence of the demarcation exercise is to find out how many people are educated and how many are not, what are the health services that are available to the various segments of the society.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat are the employment opportunities available in the country so that the youths could be employed\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n

Muhammad said, currently the exercise is being carried out in Tarmuwa and Fune local governments.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have already demarcated Damaturu, Potiskum, Gashua, Nguru, Machina, Yusufari and Karasuwa.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat remains now is Geidam, Yunusari, Bursary, Jakusko, Nangere, Fika, finally Gujba and Gulani local government area\u201d, he added.<\/p>\n

The Federal Commissioner said the exercise is expected to be concluded by August this year.<\/p>\n

\u201cThereafter, we wait for the pronouncement of Mr President as to when the actual census will take place\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n

Alhaji Sani Ya\u2019u, the Director Personnel Management, Tarmuwa local government area expressed concern over communities at the eastern part of the local government due to security challenges.<\/p>\n

He said careful security arrangements and logistics are needed to be in place before accessing those areas.<\/p>\n

Abba Yarima, one of the demarcators told newsmen that the exercise had been going on smoothly and all community members and stakeholders are given all the necessary support and cooperation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
