Africa-Press<\/a> – Nigeria<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Worried by the numbers of Tricycles operating on Kano routes, the State Assembly has urged Governor Umar Ganduje to regulate their activities by denying them further registrations.<\/p>\n

The Assembly cautioned the State-Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) against further registration of Tricycles who are not captured on their database as those on the ground are already too many.<\/p>\n

The House made the call on Tuesday following a motion of urgent public importance presented by the member, representing (APC Kunchi\/Tsanyawa constituency) Garba Ya\u2019u-Gwarmai.<\/p>\n

The Managing Director of KAROTA, Baffa Dan\u2019agundi disclosed that no fewer than 65,000 tricyclists so far registered with the agency.<\/p>\n

On Monday, the tricycle operators embarked on a warning strike across the state, to protest the collection of N100 tax by the state government but their union leaders kicked against it.<\/p>\n

According to Ya\u2019u-Gwarmai, the attitude and manner of many tricycle operators in the state is worrisome, alleging they are lawbreakers, indisciplined and disrespectful.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe cause of their strike, which is the issue of tax collection, is not a thing of concern compared to what other states like Kaduna, Lagos and other states are paying.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd the tax, when collected, the Government uses it for the development of the state and the tricycle operators also enjoy the presence of such projects in the state.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs you are aware, even during the COVID-19 pandemic, due to the revenue collection in the state, the developmental programmes of the state government still continued.<\/p>\n

\u201cTherefore, the state government should provide an alternative to ensure that the operation of tricycle operators is being regulated and controlled. And also their mode of dress should be addressed.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe operators\u2019 mode of dressing should be looked at because most of them dress indecently, they are under age and operate under drug influence.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey should also be stopped from operating on the highways to avoid loss of lives as it has been recorded.\u201d He said.<\/p>\n

After contributions by the lawmakers, the motion was adopted and a call was made on the state government to urgently look into the issue with the hope to sanitise the tricycle business.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
