Africa-Press<\/a> – Nigeria<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Oyo State Government on Monday called on the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) to without delay, sanction petroleum marketers who are hoarding commodity.<\/p>\n

The call came hours after an online news report, indicated that hundreds of commuters were stranded in Ibadan following queues at petrol stations.<\/p>\n

DAILY POST had reported that petroleum stations in Ibadan refused to sell fuel to customers due to fear of scarcity.<\/p>\n

The Oyo State Government, however in its reaction, urged the DPR to begin monitoring petroleum stations in the state and sanction marketers found hoarding the product.<\/p>\n

Commissioner for Public Works and Transport, Professor Daud Sangodoyin made the call on Monday in a statement, through his counterpart, the Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatubosun.<\/p>\n

Ogundoyin said the scarcity of fuel which started on Sunday was artificial as there were no reasons for marketers not to sell the product.<\/p>\n

He lamented that most stations in Ibadan were not selling the petrol to motorists while those dispensing had long queues which also contributed to traffic gridlock in some parts of the metropolis.<\/p>\n

He said, \u201cAs a government, we are doing all we can to make life easy for the people of Oyo State and this is reflected in the number of infrastructural projects around the state, for some people to be creating artificial scarcity of fuel for pecuniary reasons is wrong and inhuman.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Department of Petroleum Resources should as a matter of urgency swing into action and arrest the situation, they have the work of monitoring cut out for them and this is the moment to bring those marketers sabotaging government by hoarding products to book.\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
