Africa-Press<\/a> – Nigeria<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Service Chiefs appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari were on Tuesday confirmed by the Nigerian Senate.<\/p>\n

The confirmation followed the report by the Senate Committee on Defence submitted to the Senate plenary.<\/p>\n

Senate Committee Chairman on Defence and former Governor of Sokoto State, Senator Wamakko in the report explained that the nominees who were appointed to replace the former ones made themselves available for screening following the upper chamber\u2019s resolution on 3rd February, 2021.<\/p>\n

According to him, the Committee was detailed in the screening in line with the relevant sections of the law, particularly with regard to the tendering of their documents, viz: \u201cEducational certificates, NYSC, Code of Conduct and others.\u201d<\/p>\n

Senator Wamakko reminded the plenary that the nominees were already in acting capacity in line with the law that established the Nigerian military, saying their immediate confirmation would bridge any gap in the force.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat the Senate do receive and consider the report of the Committee on Defence on the confirmation of the nomination of the following persons for appointment as Chief of Defence Staff and Service Chiefs for Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.<\/p>\n

After deliberations, Senate confirmed the following as Service Chiefs:
\n1. Maj. General Lucky Eluonye Onyenucheya Irabor \u2013 Chief of Defence Staff<\/p>\n

2. Maj. General Ibrahim Attahiru \u2013 Chief of Army Staff<\/p>\n

3. Rear Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo \u2013 Chief of Naval Staff<\/p>\n

4. Air Vice Marshal Isiaka O. Amao \u2013 Chief of Air Staff<\/p>\n

After the confirmation, the Senate President, Dr Ahmad Lawan enjoined them to take the battle against insurgents to the forest.<\/p>\n

Lawan revealed that the parliament would offer support, which he believes has to be reciprocated by winning the war, adding that a situation where students are abducted from schools is no longer acceptable.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
