{"id":38508,"date":"2021-03-06T19:53:39","date_gmt":"2021-03-06T19:53:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/?p=38508"},"modified":"2021-03-06T16:47:50","modified_gmt":"2021-03-06T16:47:50","slug":"i-will-not-take-covid-19-vaccines-yahaya-bello","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/i-will-not-take-covid-19-vaccines-yahaya-bello","title":{"rendered":"I will not take COVID-19 vaccines -Yahaya Bello"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\">Nigeria<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has disclosed that he would not receive the COVID-19 vaccine.<\/p>\n<p>State governors are to receive the AstraZeneca\/Oxford COVID-19 vaccines in the coming days.<\/p>\n<p>The commencement of vaccination in Nigeria began on Friday in Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>Nigeria received about four million doses of the vaccine at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>But Bello while speaking on Channels Television\u2019s \u2018Politics Today\u2019 programme said he would not allow the people of the state to be used as \u201cguinea pigs\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCoronavirus is not our business in Kogi State. We have more pertinent issues that need to be attended to in Kogi State.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCOVID-19 is just a minute aspect of what we are treating or handling in Kogi State; there have been outbreaks of Lassa Fever and Yellow Fever and those were handled without making noise about it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c As far as I am concerned, I as a person, I do not need to take vaccines. There is nothing wrong with me. I am hale and hearty. I am 100 percent healthy, I won\u2019t take any vaccines,\u201d the Governor said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident Buhari is the leader of this country. I respect him; all of us respect him so much. We love him and he is leading by example. If he needs to take the COVID-19 vaccine and he takes it, it is a welcome development, but I will not make my people guinea pigs,\u201d Bello added.<\/p>\n<p>President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice-President, Yemi Osinbajo will take the vaccines on Saturday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria.
