Africa-Press<\/a> – Nigeria<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria, (PASAN), have sealed up the entrance to the Yobe State House of Assembly Complex in Damaturu, indefinitely.<\/p>\n

The move was in solidarity with the directives from the National Body of the Association to embark on indefinite strike action in response to the non-implementation of the Financial Autonomy act of 2018 and Presidential Order 10 of 2020 by the federal government.<\/p>\n

Speaking on the development, the Chairman of PASAN, Yobe State Chapter, Comrade Zanna Ali, said, \u201cWe took this action because members of the Association want the federal government to implement the financial autonomy.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe joined the strike because it is a nationwide action. We want our demand to be met; that is the financial autonomy of state legislature as enshrined in the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic as amended\u201d.<\/p>\n

Ali noted that it\u2019s almost two years since the President assented to the Bill, but nothing has been done towards its implementation.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere will be no sitting today because we locked the entrance gate of the legislative chamber, there\u2019s no sitting today\u201d, he declared.<\/p>\n

The Chairman added that PASAN as a pressure group exhausted all efforts aimed at ensuring the full implementation of financial autonomy by the federal government after issuing several ultimatums to the authorities concerned.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt this juncture, the association has no option than to direct our members to embark on an indefinite strike\u201d, Ali stressed.<\/p>\n

He also said, PASAN had been magnanimous by allowing ample time for implementation of the autonomy, but yet it was taken for granted.<\/p>\n

The striking staff held placard containing various inscription such as: \u201cNo Financial Autonomy, No Legislation\u201d; \u201cLegislative Financial Autonomy is a Constitutional Right Not a Privilege\u201d, among others.<\/p>\n
