{"id":40333,"date":"2021-04-02T16:21:00","date_gmt":"2021-04-02T16:21:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/?p=40333"},"modified":"2021-04-02T16:11:19","modified_gmt":"2021-04-02T16:11:19","slug":"naf-jet-on-boko-haram-mission-still-missing-after-24-hours","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/naf-jet-on-boko-haram-mission-still-missing-after-24-hours","title":{"rendered":"NAF jet on Boko Haram mission still missing after 24 hours"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\">Nigeria<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Alpha-Jet deployed for an operation against Boko Haram is still missing 24 hours after it went off radar.<\/p>\n<p>No traces have been found since Wednesday when the situation was reported in Borno State.<\/p>\n<p>The fighter aircraft lost contact with base at about 5pm while on an interdiction mission in support of ground troops.<\/p>\n<p>The jet was seen flying around Goni Kurmiri and Njimia villages after attacking terrorist locations at the Sambisa axis.<\/p>\n<p>The fear is that insurgents, known for possession of sophisticated weapons, might have shot the aircraft.<\/p>\n<p>The military says bad weather is hindering the search which commenced shortly after the disappearance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThough no trace of the wreckage has been found, bad and hazy weather has been a stumbling block lately in the military operation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are still investigating what actually happened to the missing Alpha jet. Search and rescue have been intensified\u201d, an officer told PRNigeria.<\/p>\n<p>The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Oladayo Amao arrived in Maiduguri on Thursday morning over the incident.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria.
