{"id":405,"date":"2017-12-08T18:57:06","date_gmt":"2017-12-08T18:57:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/africa-press.com\/nigeria\/?p=405"},"modified":"2017-12-08T19:02:20","modified_gmt":"2017-12-08T19:02:20","slug":"efcc-secures-judgment-seizure-ex-chief-judges-n50-million","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/homepage-english\/efcc-secures-judgment-seizure-ex-chief-judges-n50-million","title":{"rendered":"EFCC secures judgment for seizure of ex-chief judge&#8217;s N50 million"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Thursday, said it secured a landmark\u00a0judgement at the court of appeal, Enugu state, against a former chief judge.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Wilson Uwujaren, EFCC spokesman, who disclosed this, said the court dismissed the appeal by former chief judge of Enugu state, Justice Innocent Umezulike challenging the interim forfeiture of the N50 million in his Zenith Bank account.<\/p>\n<p>He said the judgment read by Justice Ogunwumiju upheld the decision of a lower court to order the temporary forfeiture of the money.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUmezulike had appealed the order given by Justice A M Liman of the Federal High Court, Enugu in March 2017 following the EFCC&#8217;s application seeking the freezing, seizure and forfeiture of properties linked to him. The commission claimed there was reasonable suspicion that the\u00a0money was part alleged donation which the former chief judge received from a litigant in his court,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe\u00a0former chief judge was\u00a0arraigned on July 14,2017\u00a0on a one-count charge of use of office to confer corrupt \u00a0and unfair advantage upon himself contrary to section 19 of the Independent and Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offence Act (Laws of the Federation) 2000 .\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Thursday, said it secured a landmark\u00a0judgement at the court of appeal, Enugu state, against a former chief judge.
