{"id":40563,"date":"2021-04-06T18:15:48","date_gmt":"2021-04-06T18:15:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/?p=40563"},"modified":"2021-04-06T16:35:05","modified_gmt":"2021-04-06T16:35:05","slug":"2021-wassce-will-not-hold-in-may-june-waec","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/all-news\/2021-wassce-will-not-hold-in-may-june-waec","title":{"rendered":"2021 WASSCE will not hold in May\/June \u2013 WAEC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\">Nigeria<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) on Tuesday said its 2021 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates, earlier scheduled for May\/June, may not hold.<\/p>\n<p>The Council\u2019s Head of National Office (HNO), Mr Patrick Areghan, gave the hint while announcing the release of results of the 2021 first series of the WASSCE for private candidates on Tuesday in Lagos, NAN reports.<\/p>\n<p>Areghan said the effect of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic is still much felt in the education sector.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that the entire education calendar has been distorted, therefore, it may not be possible to conduct the examination as scheduled.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet me use this opportunity to dispel rumours being peddled about by some people regarding the conduct of the WASSCE for school candidates, 2021.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe effect of the COVID-19 is still very much felt in the education sector and this has taken its toll on the academic calendar in the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is, therefore, not going to be possible to have the examination in May\/June this year.<\/p>\n<p>A convenient international timetable for the conduct of this examination will soon be released.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo this effect, all stakeholders are, therefore, requested to keep their fingers crossed until they hear directly from WAEC,\u2019\u2019 the WAEC boss said.<\/p>\n<p>He then appealed to all the school principals and proprietors to keep to the stipulated timelines for the enrolment of candidates for the examination.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, it is important to re-emphasise the role of Continuous Assessment Scores (CASS) in the computation of candidates\u2019 results.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll schools are advised to get this aspect of the registration process right, in order to make the entry processes seamless.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria.
