{"id":40588,"date":"2021-04-07T16:42:10","date_gmt":"2021-04-07T16:42:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/?p=40588"},"modified":"2021-04-07T16:31:52","modified_gmt":"2021-04-07T16:31:52","slug":"astrazeneca-vaccine-nigeria-probes-blood-clotting-side-effects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/all-news\/astrazeneca-vaccine-nigeria-probes-blood-clotting-side-effects","title":{"rendered":"AstraZeneca vaccine: Nigeria probes blood clotting side effects"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\">Nigeria<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) is investigating the blood clotting in some persons who received the first jab of the AstraZeneca vaccine.<\/p>\n<p>The Director General, Chikwe Ihekweazu, spoke to the press at the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 briefing.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, the European Medicines Agency announced there\u2019s a causal link between AstraZeneca\u2019s jab and rare blood clots.<\/p>\n<p>Marco Cavaleri, Head of Health Threats and Vaccine Strategy, told Rome\u2019s Il Messaggero newspaper that a definitive statement will be released this week.<\/p>\n<p>Ihekweazu said the government was aware of the blood clotting in individuals in Europe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThose investigations are still ongoing. Not all European countries are adopting the vaccines for their populations,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The DG assured that Nigeria has a system to measure and monitor any side effects.<\/p>\n<p>Ihekweazu said the National Agency for Food Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) are on top of the situation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cActions will be taken after data and circumstances are fully evaluated,\u201d the NCDC chief added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria.
