{"id":41767,"date":"2021-04-25T18:53:07","date_gmt":"2021-04-25T18:53:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/?p=41767"},"modified":"2021-04-25T16:42:21","modified_gmt":"2021-04-25T16:42:21","slug":"english-football-set-for-three-day-social-media-boycott","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/sport\/english-football-set-for-three-day-social-media-boycott","title":{"rendered":"English football set for three-day social media boycott"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\">Nigeria<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>English clubs in the Premier League and Women\u2019s Super League, will go on a three-day social media boycott next week.<\/p>\n<p>This is in response to, \u201cthe ongoing and sustained discriminatory abuse received online by players and many others connected to football.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Footballers like Manchester United\u2019s Marcus Rashford and Lauren James, Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling and Liverpool fullback, Trent Alexander-Arnold have reported racist abuse on social media platforms.<\/p>\n<p>This led to governing bodies and leagues in English football writing Twitter and Facebook in February, demanding stricter enforcement of anti-discriminatory regulations.<\/p>\n<p>However, they remain unsatisfied by action taken by social media companies so far and have confirmed a boycott of all platforms, to include coverage of fixtures next weekend, including Manchester United vs Liverpool in the Premier League.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe [Football Association] FA, Premier League, [English Football League] EFL, FA Women\u2019s Super League, FA Women\u2019s Championship, [Professional Footballers Association] PFA, [League Managers Association] LMA, [Professional Game Match Officials Limited] PGMOL, Kick It Out and the [Football Supporters Association] FSA will unite for a social media boycott from 15.00 [GMT] on Friday April 30 to 23.59 [GMT] on Monday May 3, in response to the ongoing and sustained discriminatory abuse received online by players and many others connected to football,\u201d a joint statement said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria.
