Africa-Press<\/a> – Nigeria<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The Governor of Niger State, Abubakar Sani Bello says the unity and indivisibility of Nigeria, remains sacrosanct and non-negotiable.<\/p>\n

Bello, who stated this at a stakeholder meeting on the Niger State position on 1999 constitution review in Minna said whatever the kind of federalism hoped for, the Nation\u2019s unity cannot be compromised.<\/p>\n

Represented by the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Mohammed Ketso, he argued that,\u201d no matter the nature and type of federalism we want to achieve, we must remember that unity of this country must not be compromised.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Governor insisted that in every federal system, restructuring is a continuous process through legislative and other procedures accepted by the citizens.<\/p>\n

He said the stakeholders meeting is preparatory to the North Central Zonal meeting of the States of Niger, Kogi, Kwara and FCT, Abuja coming up in Minna from 26th to 27th May, 2021.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe meeting is aimed at harmonizing Niger State\u2019s position regarding the constitutional amendment.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Chairman of the occasion, Hon Abubakar Bawa Bwari, former Minister of Solid Minerals in his speech urged the stakeholders to contribute positively to the betterment of the people of the state and Nigeria in general.<\/p>\n

He also called on Nigerians to take the issue of constitution review with seriousness to achieve the set objectives and goals.<\/p>\n

Speaking earlier, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Ahmed Ibrahim Matane noted that the constitution review is timely as it will give Nigerians a direction in its democratic growth.<\/p>\n

The SSG listed the thematic areas of discussion for the stakeholders to include devolution of powers, creation of states, resource control, federal character, electoral matters, traditional rulers as well as revenue allocation formula.<\/p>\n

Others are fiscal federalism, immunity clause, judiciary, executive, residency and indigene provisions among others.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
