Africa-Press<\/a> – Nigeria<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The new Chief of Army Staff, Major General Farouk Yahaya, has paid his last respect to his predecessor, late Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru.<\/p>\n

Attahiru and other military officers died in an air crash last Friday in Kaduna. They were buried the following day.<\/p>\n

Yahaya signed the condolence register at the headquarters of the Theatre Command of Operation HADIN KAI, Maiduguri, Borno State.<\/p>\n

The command, located at Maimalari Cantonment, is responsible for counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations in the North-East.<\/p>\n

Born on January 5, 1966 in Sifawa, Bodinga Local Government Area of Sokoto, Yahaya is a member of the 37 Regular Course of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA).<\/p>\n

The new COAS was commissioned into the Nigerian Army Infantry Corps on September 22, 1990.<\/p>\n

He was Garrison Commander, Headquarters Guards Brigade; Directing Staff, Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC); Deputy Director, Army Research and Development; and Chief of Staff, Headquarters Joint Task Force Operation Pulo Shield.<\/p>\n

Yahaya also served as the Principal General Staff Officer (PGSO) to the Minister of Defence and Commander, Headquarters 4 Brigade and 29 Task Force Brigade (Operation Zaman Lafiya).<\/p>\n

He was formerly Military Secretary; General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division, and Theatre Commander Operation HADIN KAI.<\/p>\n

The new Chief will assume office today at the Army Headquarters in Abuja.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
