{"id":44381,"date":"2021-06-02T17:00:35","date_gmt":"2021-06-02T17:00:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/?p=44381"},"modified":"2021-06-02T15:20:52","modified_gmt":"2021-06-02T15:20:52","slug":"constitution-review-dont-be-overcome-by-sentiments-put-nigeria-first-ganduje-to-lawmakers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/constitution-review-dont-be-overcome-by-sentiments-put-nigeria-first-ganduje-to-lawmakers","title":{"rendered":"Constitution Review: Don\u2019t be overcome by sentiments, put Nigeria first \u2013 Ganduje to lawmakers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\">Nigeria<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The Kano State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje has charged the National Assembly to reject any sentimental contributions made to them, aimed at causing havoc to the Nigerian State.<\/p>\n<p>Ganduje also charged the legislators to put the interest of Nigeria first above all in the course of reviewing the constitution.<\/p>\n<p>Ganduje gave the charge on Wednesday while making remarks at the Public hearing organised by the House of Representatives Special Committee on the review of the 1999 Constitution as amended.<\/p>\n<p>He said the call was necessary given the various challenges bedevilling the country as well as the various agitations from a section of the country.<\/p>\n<p>Why we created new Emirates in Kano \u2013 Ganduje<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no better time to organise the constitution review than now when various groups from across the country are yearning for a review.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, people from across the country are looking up to you to provide a new sense of direction for the country towards addressing the multi-faceted challenges bedevilling the nation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKano state government is highly in support of the exercise as it will go a long way in addressing the challenges,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in his remark, the chairman of the committee Kano centre and Majority leaders, House of Representatives, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, said the event was coming when the country was being challenged from all sides including agitations and the need to address a number of contentious issues as enshrined in the constitution.<\/p>\n<p>Tinubu\u2019s birthday: Arewa youths reject Ganduje\u2019s plan to use Kano govt house<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe efforts to review the Constitution have become an integral feature of the activities of the National Assembly since 1999, as a way of sharing with members of the Public our primary legislative functions,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He urged members of the public to make the best use of the opportunity to express themselves because according to him, great nations are built on the advancement of shared values, the protection and advancement of mutual interests regardless of<br \/>\ndiversity.<\/p>\n<p>Doguwa reiterated the commitment of the National Assembly to drive the process to push the country forward.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria.
