{"id":44456,"date":"2021-06-04T16:07:06","date_gmt":"2021-06-04T16:07:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/?p=44456"},"modified":"2021-06-04T16:04:24","modified_gmt":"2021-06-04T16:04:24","slug":"buhari-government-failed-nigeria-senior-advocate-ukweni","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/buhari-government-failed-nigeria-senior-advocate-ukweni","title":{"rendered":"Buhari government failed Nigeria \u2013 Senior Advocate, Ukweni"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\">Nigeria<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) in Cross River State, Ntufam Mba Ukweni, has said President Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) have failed Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>He said the activities of the government showed that it has no human face neither does it consider people\u2019s feelings<\/p>\n<p>Ntufam also said legal practitioners were disappointed at the lack of financial independence to the Judiciary which culminated in an industrial action of over two months by judiciary workers.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the handing over of the keys of the renovated Customary Court of Appeal to the Chief Judge of Cross River State, Justice Akon Ikpeme, the SAN said Nigerian\u2019s problems required urgent attention.<\/p>\n<p>Abducted Chief Superintendent of Customs regains freedom in Cross River<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis government has failed us and for us to know that we can renovate our courts shows that we can make our places of work comfortable.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are happy that our struggle to have an independent judiciary is not in vain and we will continue in that quest. We know this to be a magistrate court, the court of appeal was using it as a canteen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think something can equally be done in the main building that was razed by fire because if we want to wait for the executive to do something there, it will not be forthcoming\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Also speaking, the Chairman of Bar Bench Forum, Rosemary Obanyan said, \u201cOur hearts bled when Hon Justice Ita took us round on inspection tour some months ago.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd we saw the very dilapidated environment with trees growing everywhere, we are so happy to see what has happened today<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith this, there will be no excuse for this jurisdiction not to have its customary court of appeal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAgitation for the independence of the judiciary had been on for years and we do hope that this time around it will be fruitful, so we encourage you to keep going and with God on our side, the judiciary will be independent,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Superintendent of customs kidnapped in Cross River State<\/p>\n<p>Collecting the keys and inspecting the refurbished court the Chief Judge of the State.
