Africa-Press<\/a> – Nigeria<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials in Gwaram Local Government council in Jigawa State, have stopped Chairman, Dan Asabe Muhammad, from voting.<\/p>\n

A mild drama started at the Kofar Fada polling unit in Sara ward when the local government chairman approached the election officials to vote without a voter card.<\/p>\n

Muhammad, who came to the poling unit in a convoy, urged the INEC officials to compromise the use of card readers to allow him to vote.<\/p>\n

The presiding officer of Kofar Fada 001 polling unit however denied the chairman to vote for his failure to present his card.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe chairman who took time to explain that he has misplaced his card but has crossed checked and saw his name pasted on the wall with no 597 as his designated number but politely told him that, \u201cI m sorry sir, I know you\u2019re the council chairman but I cannot allow you to vote without your voters card, that\u2019s the rule\u201d. the presiding officer stated.<\/p>\n

The electoral officer stood her ground that the chairman will not vote despite pressures from the police officer and politicians in the company of the chairman.<\/p>\n

The chairman left the polling unit fuming that he was denied the right to vote.<\/p>\n

This is coming after INEC said it will not entertain any election conducted without the use of card readers in Jigawa.<\/p>\n

\u201cAny polling unit that compromise the use of card readers such result will not be counted and will not be considered and no fresh election will be conducted in the area<\/p>\n

\u201cAlso any INEC official caught compromising the use of a card reader will be prosecuted,\u201d INEC said.<\/p>\n

INEC National Commissioner, Festus Okoye while inspecting the by-election, said all the process of the election is going smoothly and priority is given to the elderly persons and persons living with disabilities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
