Africa-Press<\/a> – Nigeria<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says the people of Ogun State have been swindled by the present government of Governor Dapo Abiodun.<\/p>\n

PDP maintained that Ogun residents and indigenes were hoodwinked by the \u201cdeceit and callousness\u201d of the present government, which it said always blamed everything on paucity of funds.<\/p>\n

The party was reacting to the inability of the Ogun State House of Assembly to execute their constituency projects in the last two years.<\/p>\n

DAILY POST earlier reported that the Assembly members said they have not been given a dime for constituency projects since two years now and that Gov Abiodun had told them to hold on about their constituency allowances.<\/p>\n

Reacting in an exclusive interview with our correspondent, the Ogun PDP spokesman, Akinloye Bankole, said the government could not release money for the lawmakers because Ogun funds had been \u201cdepleted and diverted into private vaults.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bankole stated that what was happening in Ogun was a confirmation of what the PDP had always said about the present government.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis constituency project issue is a kind of confirmation of what we have always said about this ruling government in Ogun State. Before now we have always maintained that a large chunk of our money is being diverted into personal vaults.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe government under the watch of His Excellency, Governor Dapo Abiodun has blantantly refused, in a space of two years, to release money that is originally due to members of the Ogun State House of Assembly to prosecute their constituency projects for the benefit of their constituents.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur funds have been largely depleted and delivered into private pockets. That\u2019s why the government cannot readily provide money. There is nothing to even provide anyway. They will tell you there is no adequate money to finance their projects. It is very sad because when a government that is supposed to deliver basic infrastructure to the people has been found wanting in that regard, it is a big shame. It is so sad and it goes to confirm our fear,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Bankole blamed the lawmakers for not performing their roles of checks and balances to the executive arm of the state government.<\/p>\n

The PDP Publicity Secretary queried why the Assembly members continue to approve loans for Gov Abiodun without asking for information about how the money would be expended.<\/p>\n

He lamented that the debt profile of Ogun State had continued to increase without commensurate infrastructural projects executed in the state.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven the members of the Ogun State House of Assembly are also culpable in this matter. Why will they sit down and approve debts for the state government without proper information as to what they have done with the money?<\/p>\n

\u201cLook at the debt profile of Ogun State today, it is so high without commensurate projects to show for it. Ordinary constituency project, they cannot execute. This goes to show you that the people of Ogun State have been swindled. We have been hoodwinked by the deceit, irresponsibility and callousness of this government.
