Africa-Press<\/a> – Nigeria<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The Caretaker Chairman of Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State, Hon. Bola Lawal, has been dragged before the State Commissioner of Police for allegedly forging documents of a land located within his council.<\/p>\n

The family of Iyanda Ogundeyi in Abeokuta had urged the police to investigate the alleged forged documents the council boss is reportedly parading on the four acres of land.<\/p>\n

The family, in a petition addressed to the police boss, accused Lawal of allegedly planning to take over the land situated off Abeokuta-Ibadan highway in Gbobagun village, Obantoko.<\/p>\n

According to the petition titled, \u201cPetition of forgery and fraudulent representation against Mr. Semiu Bola Lawal,\u201d the Ogundeyis accused the Chairman of using his office to \u201coppress the owners of the land.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to the family, the Chairman had \u201cfraudulently halted the charting certificate relating to the land.\u201d<\/p>\n

The family told the police that, \u201cLawal is parading a false document dated July 3, 2020 and represented that our client\u2019s family land is part of the acquired land by Ogun State Government on behalf of Odeda Local Government.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe hereby seek your indulgence for this matter to be investigated in the interest of justice. We look forward to your prompt intervention.\u201d<\/p>\n

Reacting, Lawal denied the allegation against him, saying the council had acquired the land since 2002; 18 years before he assumed office.<\/p>\n

He added that the local government invested a lot on that land, explaining that the family \u201ccontinued going to the land to sell it,\u201d stating that the family had agreed to collect compensation over the land.<\/p>\n

According to him, the family had received part of the compensation.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe agreed on about N3million as compensation. They have collected almost N700,000 out of the money. They even signed for it.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey went to collect a certain charting information of the land. As a government, would we go and forge a land document again? I don\u2019t know where they saw a forged document.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is not about me as the Chairman, it is about Odeda Local Government.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is the Ministry of Lands that can speak on that and not me.<\/p>\n

\u201cLast year, they still collected N100,000 from the local government and they signed for it on that land. It was one of the Ogundeyis that signed for the money.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Director-General of the Bureau of Lands and Survey in Ogun, Aina Salami, confirmed to newsmen that there was a land matter involving Odeda council.<\/p>\n

Salami, however, said he might not be able to state categorically if the matter he was referring to was the same one under discussion.<\/p>\n
