{"id":47488,"date":"2021-07-27T15:33:58","date_gmt":"2021-07-27T14:33:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/?p=47488"},"modified":"2021-07-27T14:27:08","modified_gmt":"2021-07-27T13:27:08","slug":"nigerian-law-rubbished-case-against-nnamdi-kanu-lawyer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/nigerian-law-rubbished-case-against-nnamdi-kanu-lawyer","title":{"rendered":"Nigerian law rubbished case against Nnamdi Kanu \u2013 Lawyer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\">Nigeria<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Aloy Ejimakor, a counsel to the embattled leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has revealed how the Nigerian law backed the secessionist in the treason felony case filed against him by the Federal Government.<\/p>\n<p>Ejimakor, who addressed reporters on Monday at Federal High Court Maitama Abuja where Kanu was expected to resume his trial, said \u201cno Nigerian can be tried for any offence that is not supported by written law in the country\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, a section of the Nigerian constitution, \u2018African Chattered of Human and People\u2019s Right, Ratification and Enforcement Act\u2019, chapter A-9 laws of Federation of Nigeria\u201d, permits self determination.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that the Article 1 of same chapter mandated the government to support its citizens exercising the right.<\/p>\n<p>Nnamdi Kanu: There will be no trial of IPOB leader \u2013 Lawyer, Ejimakor<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet\u2019s get this clear, trial of what? Nothing can be built on nothing, we have made it clear. The counsel representing the four other defenders have made it clear in their applications that the main charge, \u2018treasonable felony\u2019 is not supported by any law in the Federation of Nigeria. It is there in the Nigerian constitution.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo Nigerian can be tried for any offence that is not supported by written law in the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd we have another law in this country, it is called \u2018African Chatter of Human and People\u2019s Right, Ratification and Enforcement Act\u2019, chapter A-9 laws of Federation of Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cArticle 20 of that chapter made it clear that all citizens of Nigeria have the right of self determination.
