{"id":47519,"date":"2021-07-28T17:54:27","date_gmt":"2021-07-28T16:54:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/?p=47519"},"modified":"2021-07-28T17:49:37","modified_gmt":"2021-07-28T16:49:37","slug":"ahmed-musa-named-among-greatest-super-eagles-strikers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/sport\/ahmed-musa-named-among-greatest-super-eagles-strikers","title":{"rendered":"Ahmed Musa named among greatest Super Eagles strikers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\">Nigeria<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Former Nigeria international, Victor Ikpeba, has named current captain of the Super Eagles, Ahmed Musa, among the greatest strikers to have played for the country.<\/p>\n<p>Ikpeba, 48, played 31 times for the Super Eagles before retiring.<\/p>\n<p>He has now heaped praise on Musa, saying the next generation of Nigerian forwards should look to match the 28-year-old\u2019s achievements.<\/p>\n<p>Ikpeba\u2019s statement comes days after Musa sealed a free transfer to Turkish Super Lig club Fatih Karagumruk on a two-year contract.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is good that Musa has finally secured a new club in Europe which fits his status as Super Eagles captain.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the move to Turkey is coming at a very good time for him ahead of next season and with the World Cup qualifiers and the Africa Cup of Nations finals coming up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAhmed [Musa] has come of age in the Eagles and I ranked him among the greatest Nigerian strikers till date for scoring four goals for Nigeria in two World Cup outings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe goals were quality strikes too, you know. They were technically solid goals scored against top teams and at the biggest football event in the world.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat is no mean feat because it is a record which other Nigerian strikers will be striving to break in the future,\u201d Ikpeba said as quoted by completesports.com.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria.
