Africa-Press<\/a> – Nigeria<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Plans to revisit the noble values passed on from generation to generation in order to ensure peaceful coexistence among all the ethnic groups domiciled in Taraba State have been put in place by Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku.<\/p>\n

Ishaku who on Monday made this known at a five-day workshop organized by the state government in collaboration with the Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, believed that without revisiting such values \u201cthere shall be no meaningful and sustainable development.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stressing that, \u201cwe desire that our diversity should be our strength and not a weakness\u201d the workshop, according to him, will familiarize the traditional rulers with new trends in administration, ease of doing work in line with the evolving role of the traditional institution in a rapidly changing society.<\/p>\n

The monarchs whom he said have been the vanguards of \u201cour respected cultures, norms, and traditions since time immemorial\u201d have excelled in this role until they were pushed to the margins after independence from Britain.<\/p>\n

The colonial administration as stated by the governor recognized the critical role of traditional chiefs by adopting the indirect rule, particularly in the northern region, which \u201d did not only save money but also brought peace and served as a prelude to self-governance and eventual independence.<\/p>\n

\u201dThe decision of the government to create more chiefdoms and as well upgrade the existing ones has not only earned us the respect of all Tarabans but has also become a model for other states to emulate.\u201d<\/p>\n

IShaku further stated that his administration will not rule out the possibility of creating more chiefdoms, stating that the ongoing exercise is also geared at preparing the monarchs for greater responsibilities based on their status and elevation.<\/p>\n

He demanded \u201ctotal loyalty, impartiality, and commitment to our drive to entrench fairness and an egalitarian society, irrespective of status, background, creed, or ethnicity.\u201d<\/p>\n

Elated by the development, some of the monarchs who bared their minds to DAILY POST, reiterated their determination to take advantage of the exercise in order to function effectively in their domains, the state and the society at large.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
