Africa-Press<\/a> – Nigeria<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Barcelona have submitted a complaint to the European Commission, in a bid to stop Paris Saint-Germain from signing Lionel Messi, Marca reports.<\/p>\n

Their lawyer, Dr. Juan Branco, has filed a case before the Court of Appeal of Paris on behalf of the Catalan club\u2019s membership.<\/p>\n

Messi has been a free agent since July 1 and PSG will not need to pay a transfer fee to Barcelona.<\/p>\n

The 34-year-old was prepared to sign a new deal on half of his wages, but the LaLiga giants were unable to renew his contract because of LaLiga\u2019s financial rules.<\/p>\n

PSG are widely expected to seal a deal for Messi this week on a two-year contract.<\/p>\n

Branco is, however, using the argument that PSG\u2019s position in terms of UEFA\u2019s Financial Fair Play (FFP) model is worse than that of Barcelona, and therefore the move should not be allowed to be processed.<\/p>\n

The intention is to block the deal being finalised by the authorities as the Parisians have a salary to income ratio that is far in excess of that of Barca\u2019s.<\/p>\n

\u201cPSG\u2019s ratios in terms of \u2018Financial Fair Play\u2019 are worse than those of F\u00fatbol Club Barcelona.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the 2019\/20 season, the ratio between salaries and income for the Parisian team was 99%, while that of Bar\u00e7a was 54%,\u201d the letter reads in part.<\/p>\n

It is believed Messi will earn \u20ac40million in wages alongside a bumper signing on fee.<\/p>\n

The letter also highlighted the lavish signings of Achraf Hakimi, Sergio Ramos, Gianluigi Donnaruma, Georginio Wijnaldum and Danilo Pereira made by PSG this summer.<\/p>\n

The wage budget of the French side dwarfs that of their domestic rivals, with the likes of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe \u2013 the two most expensive transfers of all-time in football \u2013 already on their books.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
