Africa-Press<\/a> – Nigeria<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Some concerned Nigerians have reacted to a comment by the Nigerian Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo explaining why he joined politics in 2015.<\/p>\n

Osinbajo had on Sunday during the 65th birthday and retirement thanksgiving service for a notable Nigerian pilot, Capt. Usman Saleh Yahaya, at the ECWA Goodnews Church, Maitama, Abuja, said his primary assignment in government is to serve the people and honour God.<\/p>\n

The VP, prior to his selection during the 2015 general election as President Muhammadu Buhari\u2019s running mate, was a pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG.<\/p>\n

Osinbajo who is speculated as the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC in the forthcoming 2023 general elections said he was called by God to serve humanity.<\/p>\n

The VP said, \u201cThe scriptures say that we are the salt of the earth. Every time people ask me, they say, oh, why are you in government? And I say, why not?<\/p>\n

\u201cThe calling of God upon our lives is that we must be in service. What is the point of light if it is kept under a bushel? What\u2019s the point of salt if it does not go into the soup? If it is afraid of soup, what kind of salt is that?\u201d<\/p>\n

The comment however, triggered reactions as some Nigerians took to Twitter to express their opinions.<\/p>\n

@MuyiwaAdetunji: \u201cServing God where there is no justice, fair play, equity and righteousness\u201d?<\/p>\n

@UmaruT_J: \u201cAre you now the most high to detect who is genuinely serving you or not? Haba na, let\u2019s grow past this and allow God to be the judge\u201d.<\/p>\n

@Pedyge: \u201cIn those two duties, the latter will be difficult for him as he hasn\u2019t even succeeded in the former. If he doesn\u2019t know that, then, he doesn\u2019t really mean what he said. You can\u2019t be in this present Buhari Govt and claim to serve God. If he truly wants to serve God, he should resign\u201d.<\/p>\n

@Murecool: \u201cWe\u2019ve never had a VP with so much finesse, total diligence, unflinching loyalty and complete competence as @ProfOsinbajo. He remains an inexhaustible fountain of inspiration for youth who\u2019re aspiring to excellence\u201d.<\/p>\n

@Profmuhu: \u201cPatriotic Nigerians know that you\u2019re doing your best and we\u2019ll never relent in our prayers. Nigeria will prevail\u201d.<\/p>\n
