Africa-Press<\/a> – Nigeria<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Yusuf Nurudeen, a.k.a Omomeewa, a student activist at the Lagos State University (LASU), has been shot dead.<\/p>\n

Omomeewa, who got married early this year, was killed around the LASU U-turn hours after facing a disciplinary committee in the school.<\/p>\n

The school had grilled him over alleged unlawful possession of university documents, among others.<\/p>\n

The unionist graduated in 2019 from the Department of Educational Management, Faculty of Education. He was the Founder of Educational Rights Campaign (ERC).<\/p>\n

LASU Students\u2019 Union President, Badmus Uthman, and Public Relations Officer, Olusola Kolawole, confirmed his death in a statement.<\/p>\n

Nurudeen contested for the post of Students\u2019 Union President in the 29th LASUSU Election but lost, the duo said he remained diligent and never engaged in illegal activities.<\/p>\n

They noted that on 18th August, 2021, Omomeewa and a LASU staff member, Waheed Majekodunmi, were robbed and shot around 10 pm. The latter has been hospitalised.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Union checked all the hospitals around including Police stations and it was there we were informed that Nurudeen is dead. His body is at Mainland hospital\u201d, the statement read.<\/p>\n

Reacting, LASU said the deceased left the campus at about 8pm long after he was released by the panel around 2pm.<\/p>\n

According to the Coordinator, Centre for Information and Public Relations, Ademola Adekoya, the management received the news of Omomeewa\u2019s death with great shock.<\/p>\n

His statement said Majekodunmi is the Senior Assistant Registrar and that the attack occurred outside the university campus, along the Egbeda-Igando Road.<\/p>\n

Adekoya explained that Omomeewa was yet to receive his certificate due to an ongoing disciplinary case he was facing in the university.<\/p>\n

The spokesman said the panel began sitting in 2019. The matter continued until 2020 but was paused due to the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

The late activist was again invited by the committee, alongside other students who had ongoing cases, on Wednesday, to defend himself.<\/p>\n

\u201cOmomeewa was the first student attended to, and his case was concluded before 2pm. He ostensibly remained on the university campus until late in the evening during which time he met up with Mr. Waheed Majekodunmi.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe duo were said to have hobnobbed at the University Senior Staff Club until past 8pm in the evening after which they left together through the Iba Gate of the University for their destinations.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnable to get vehicles at the school junction as it was late in the day, the duo were said to have trekked several metres away from the gate ostensibly in search of a vehicle.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey were attacked by men of the underworld, dispossessed of their valuables and shot. The staff escaped with gunshot wounds and got helped by passersby to a nearby hospital. Omomeewa did not survive the attack\u201d, the statement read.<\/p>\n

LASU assured that the institution is working with security agencies to investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to book.<\/p>\n
