Africa-Press<\/a> – Nigeria<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>A former governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola has stated that one of the accomplishments of his administration in the state is the settlement of the Ife-Modakeke communal clash and the lasting peace being enjoyed by both towns to date.<\/p>\n

Speaking on a radio current affairs programme in Osogbo on Wednesday, Oyinlola also disclosed that another accomplishment was the establishment of the Osun State University (UNIOSUN).<\/p>\n

He revealed that UNIOSUN was conceived as a six campus university to allow for different individual universities in the future which will both serve to develop education in the state and the community in which it is located.<\/p>\n

While noting the challenges which confronted his administration between 2003 and 2010, Oyinlola submitted that he had engaged in economic re-engineering to keep the state afloat.<\/p>\n

On his assumption of office, he disclosed, there was a dispute resulting from the sacking of some civil servants by the Chief Bisi Akande administration.<\/p>\n

He explained that all of them were reabsorbed, adding that as a government of the people, his administration did not attempt to downsize the state workforce because of the ripple effect it will have.<\/p>\n

In his words, \u201cIt took planning and financial engineering to manage Osun economically.\u201d<\/p>\n

On the N18.3 billion loan, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain explained it was obtained on behalf of the Osun people to carry out infrastructural projects.<\/p>\n

Oyinlola revealed that the Osun State House of Assembly had advised that a loan should be obtained to finance and fund projects in the 2010 budget.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Osun State House of Assembly approved the loan. The loan was not taken by Oyinlola but it was the people of Osun that took the loan,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He also added that UNIOSUN cost the state less than N4 billion to execute.<\/p>\n

While agreeing that the state may not have achieved the dreams of its founding fathers, he noted that there was still reason to thank God because Osun is still working despite limited resources militating against its development.<\/p>\n

As to his relationship with the traditional institutions in the state, Prince Oyinlola maintained that he never had issues with any traditional ruler being a product of the institution.<\/p>\n
