Africa-Press<\/a> – Nigeria<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka has maintained that Yoruba freedom fighter, Sunday Adeyemo, aka Igboho is not a criminal.<\/p>\n

Soyinka said the Nigerian Government should tag herdsmen killing people and raping women as criminals and not Igboho.<\/p>\n

Speaking with journalists at the Freedom Park in Lagos on Friday, the Nobel Laureate said Igboho\u2019s agitation cannot be criminalized because it\u2019s peaceful.<\/p>\n

Soyinka also criticized the Department of State Services, DSS, for raiding Igboho\u2019s residence in Ibadan, Oyo State.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cI refuse to accept that Igboho is being chased because he peacefully demonstrated his position vis-a-vis the destiny of this nation, which is a fundamental human right of any body.<\/p>\n

\u201cSomebody calls for secession, calls for a separate state, I don\u2019t consider that, and nowhere does it deserve to be called a criminal act.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs long as it is done peacefully, collectively, within the ambit of the law, you don\u2019t now criminalize that action.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd in addition, commit criminal acts against such an individual, which is what the government, the security forces did by raiding Igboho\u2019s home in the middle of the night, killing two of his own people, then claiming, without a warrant or anything, they found weapons in his home.\u201d<\/p>\n

Igboho is currently locked up by security agents in Benin Republic.<\/p>\n

The freedom fighter was arrested recently in Cotonou while trying to travel to Germany.<\/p>\n

Igboho had fled Nigeria to Benin Republic after he was declared wanted by the DSS.<\/p>\n

His arrest followed the discovery of weapons in his house in Soka area of Ibadan, Oyo State.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
