Africa-Press<\/a> – Nigeria<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Unknown gunmen have killed a police sergeant and an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) during an attack on the team of \u201cOperation Doo Akpor\u201d in Bayelsa State.<\/p>\n

DAILY POST learnt that the incident occurred on Sunday at Okarki junction in Yenagoa when security agents engaged the assailants in a gun duel.<\/p>\n

Operation Doo Akpo is a security team formed by the state government using personnel from major security agencies in the state and saddled with the responsibility of ensuring the safety of residents.<\/p>\n

It was learnt that the security operatives were ambushed by the gunmen who opened fire on the personnel, killing two and injuring many.<\/p>\n

The state\u2019s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Asinim Butswat, confirmed the unfortunate incident in a statement he issued on Monday.<\/p>\n

He said, \u201cOperatives of a Joint Task Force codenamed Operation Doo Akpor, repelled an attack by unknown gunmen at a nipping point at Okarki Junction, Yenagoa.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn 5 September 2021, at about 2030hours, Operatives of Operation Doo Akpor, at Okarki Junction came under heavy fire by gunmen yet-to-be-identified.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe gallant Operatives engaged the hoodlums in a shoot-out and repelled them from attacking their target.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnfortunately a Police Sargent and an Operative of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps sustained fatal gunshots wounds, which led to their death.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
