Africa-Press<\/a> – Nigeria<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The minority leader of the House of Representatives, Ndudi Elumelu, has raised an alarm over the leaking roof in the National Assembly chamber, describing it as dangerous to lawmakers\u2019 safety.<\/p>\n

Elumelu, who raised a point of order during plenary on Wednesday in Abuja, pointed out to the House the danger inherent in coming to plenary to make laws under a leaking roof.<\/p>\n

\u201dOur chamber is leaking. While coming into the chamber this morning, we noticed the cleaner making frantic efforts to scoop water.<\/p>\n

\u201dThis is dangerous to our day to day lawmaking, we cannot be representing our people and speaking for them under a leaking roof,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila, said that Elumelu\u2019s point of order was noted, saying, \u201cthis is very important to us.\u201d<\/p>\n

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that leaks from the roof of the national assembly building had before now disrupted plenary sessions.<\/p>\n

NAN also reports that the incident which followed a downpour, occurred at the \u2018White House\u2019, a portion of the Assembly building housing both upper and lower legislative chambers.<\/p>\n

Many lawmakers were stranded for some minutes while waiting for the rain to stop.<\/p>\n
