The Oyo State Police Command on Friday said that about 10,000 officers from the command would be deployed for the conduct of the tomorrow\u2019s Presidential and National Assembly elections across the 33 local government areas in the state.<\/p>\n
Commissioner of Police, Mr. Shina Olukolu made this disclosure while speaking at a press conference held at the command\u2019s headquarters in Eleyele Ibadan, the state capital.<\/p>\n
Olukolu, while assuring residents of the state of adequate security, disclosed that the 10,000 officers would be deployed to mount strategic areas, polling units, voting points and various locations considered as flash points among others.<\/p>\n
\nHe said that patrol teams, which would provide security cover to the unarmed officers who will be at the various polling units to maintain law and order, would be stationed at various strategic areas and flashpoints in case of any breach.<\/p>\n
He said that the policemen who are being deployed would ensure security for the people, voting materials and INEC officials during and after the elections.<\/p>\n
He said \u201cI can tell you that we have about 10,000 personnel that will be deployed for this election. Close to 10, 000 police officers would be deployed.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe criminally minded people should stay away. They don\u2019t have business in the elections. But those who are to perform their civil responsibility should come out for the elections, they do not exercise any fear.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe armed patrol teams are to be stationed at strategic places, they are to provide security in case of any breach. This is to ensure that the people can be rest assured that they don\u2019t have anything to fear.\u201d<\/p>\n
He added, \u201cI appeal to the people of the state to go out tomorrow and perform their civil responsibility without any fear. Police are deployed to ensure that voting materials and INEC officials. We are also going to have patrol teams on standby. Security is to be provided for everybody without fear or favour.\u201d<\/p>\n
Olukolu warned politicians in the state to play the game by the rules and desist from acts that can jeopardise the conduct of the elections.<\/p>\n
