Africa-Press<\/a> – Nigeria<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The absence of civil servants and other workers from the Cross River State House of Assembly stalled the scheduled presentation of the 2022 State budget by Governor Ben Ayade.<\/p>\n

Workers in the state have been on strike since Tuesday last week over a 14-point demand by the joint council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC).<\/p>\n

Despite the directive by the National Industrial Court that labour should call off the strike and the state government\u2019s threat to sanctions workers that did not resume work yesterday at 8am, the workers have stayed off since NLC has proceeded to Higher Court to ask for Stay of execution of NIC directive.<\/p>\n

The State government consequently called off the presentation of the budget Friday morning.<\/p>\n

One of the Assembly workers who pleaded not to be named said,\u201dthere is no way the budget presentation can hold as we are not there to facilitate the processes.<\/p>\n

\u201cWho are the people to open the offices, clean them and make all necessary arrangements to ensure a hitch-free presentation?\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n

Chairman of the NLC, Ben Ukpebi said no worker is permitted to return to work since the state governor has refused to dialogue with them.<\/p>\n
