Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, FUT, Minna, Niger State, Prof. Abdullahi Bala has warned the newly elected Students\u2019 Union (SU) Executives of the University to strictly conduct themselves within the ambit of the constitution or risk sanctions.<\/p>\n

Bala, who gave the warning shortly after swearing in the elected officials at the Senate chamber, Main campus, Gidan Kwano, said going contrary to any of the sources of laws could attract punishment.<\/p>\n

He explained, \u201cthere is a need for the new student leaders to strictly conduct themselves within the ambit of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the University Act and the Student Union Constitution. I want to warn that violation of any of these sources of laws could attract sanctions\u201d.<\/p>\n

The VC also advised the Executives and members of the Students\u2019 Representative Assembly (SRA) to always relate with fellow contenders of SU elections in piloting the affairs of the union.<\/p>\n

While commending the members of the Students\u2019 Union Independent Electoral Committee (SUIEC) for a successful electoral process within three weeks after the inauguration, he said,\u201d you have done us proud. The University should serve as a model for the country, having successfully deployed technology for voting and transmission of election results\u201d.<\/p>\n

The VC applauded the losers for gallantly accepting defeat, saying \u201cit is an attestation of the fact that the process was transparent which gave no room for petitions\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe essence of elections is to provide a forum and platform for which you contest. It is contrived in a manner that there must be losers and winners. Once it is done and dusted, we all go back to the default state where the leaders are allowed to work\u201d.<\/p>\n

He noted the need for collaboration between the management and the Students\u2019 Union in the fight against vices like drug abuse, cultism, youth restiveness and cybercrime through sensitisation campaigns within the campus.<\/p>\n

The newly elected SUG President of the University, Shuaib Ishaka Yahaya in his inaugural address said the ideals that underpinned the Students Union include leadership, ethics, creativity and cooperation would be maintained.<\/p>\n

Yahaya, a 500 level student of Entrepreneurship and Business Studies also assured the students that adequate attention would be given to issues their welfare.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur administration will neither support nor tolerate any member of the Executive who attempts to sow discord among members or fails to take the charge in their individual domain\u201d.<\/p>\n
