The Judicial Commission of Inquiry set up by Ekiti State Government to
\nlook into the financial transactions of the state under the
\nadministration of Dr. Kayode Fayemi has said that the former governor
\nmust account for the whereabouts of a sum of N2.75 billion allocated
\nfrom the N25 billion bond obtained by the government for the execution
\nof contract for the construction of Ultra-Modern market in Ado Ekiti,
\nwhich was never executed.<\/p>\n
The commission of inquiry also said that the contractor in respect of
\nthe furnishing of the government house built by the Fayemi\u2019s
\nadministration should be made to refund a sum of N324.8 million,
\nnoting that the contract should not have been more than N280 million.<\/p>\n
The panel said it found out that KITWOOD Nigeria Limited to which the
\nfurnishing contract of over N600 million was awarded had no traceable
\naddress and that \u201cthe address on the Letter of Award is a virgin land
\nat opposite the new Central Bank along new Iyin Road, Ado Ekiti.<\/p>\n
These and several other revelations were made known today, when the
\ncommission of inquiry submitted its report to the State Governor, Mr
\nAyodele Fayose. The panel was headed by Justice Silas Oyewole (rtd).<\/p>\n
On the purchase of vehicles, the panel said \u201cclaim by Coscharis Motors
\nthat it supplied 235 and\/or 250 vehicles was fraudulent and that
\nfraught with so many contradictions.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat Coscharis Motors supplied some vehicles outside Ekiti State
\nespecially, at Ibadan Liaison office when Ekiti State Government does
\nnot have a Liaison office in Ibadan. In respect of this, seven
\nvehicles were supplied outside the State and signed for by unknown
\npersons.<\/p>\n
That Coscharis Motors only supplied 219 vehicles to the Ekiti State
\ngovernment and that 17 Joylong Buses were supplied to the Ekiti State
\nGovernment as gift but later carted away.\u201d<\/p>\n
On the controversial N852.9 State Universal Education Board (SUBEB)
\nfund, the commission said it was clear that the Government of Dr
\nFayemi hoodwinked the federal government into paying its own matching
\ngrant by obtaining N852, 936,783.12 loan from Access Bank on November
\n25, 2013 without perfecting documentation in respect of the loan,
\nthereby flouting the provisions of Section 11(2) of the UBEC Act,
\n2004.<\/p>\n
While receiving the report, Governor Fayose said asking people to
\naccount for their stewardship should not be termed witch hunting, as
\nleaders must be accountable and that Ekiti people have the inalienable
\nrights to know how their commonwealth was being used.<\/p>\n
“I appreciate the panel members for a thorough job done. The time and
\nenergy they put into the job. The panel waited for the outcome of the
\ncourt case instituted by former Governor Kayode Fayemi before it
\nconcluded its job because we are ardent believers in the rule of law
\nand if the court had ruled that we should stop, we would have stopped.<\/p>\n
“There is no witch hunting in a situation whereby people are asked to
\naccount for their stewardship. Am glad that the Federal Government is
\nalso pursuing the policy of accountability and we are following suit
\nhere too,” he said.<\/p>\n
Governor Fayose subsequently inaugurated a four-man administrative
\npanel to study the report and come out with a White Paper. The
\nadministrative panel is headed by the Commissioner for Justice, Mr
\nKolapo Kolade.<\/p>\n
Earlier, Justice Oyewole said though the panel was given three months
\nto do its work when inaugurated in May this year, it had to bid its
\ntime to see the end of the litigation by Fayemi.<\/p>\n
In another development, Governor Fayose has set up a four-man panel to
\nlook into agitation by some communities for autonomy and other sundry
\nissues.<\/p>\n
It has Justice Silas Oyewole as the chairman and tagged Justice
\nOyewole Chieftaincy Commission of Enquiry 2018. The governor said that
\nthe panel had six months to complete its work and could also look into
\nother issues relating to its terms of reference.<\/p>\n
In his remarks, Justice Oyewole said he would never be tired of
\nserving the state in any capacity he is asked to.<\/p>\n
Other members of the commission are Magistrate Ojo Ayenimo, Alex
\nAdekunle\u00a0 and Gbenga Adaramola.<\/p>\n

\nthat all the witnesses called by the panel appeared except the
\nimmediate past governor of the state, who is the Minister for Steel
\nand Minerals Resources Development, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, his
\nCommissioner for Finance, Mr. Dapo Vincent Kolawole and CASA Consult
\nLimited.<\/p>\n
\nthe panel, he urged the commission to close the public hearing so as
\nto take a step in writing and submitting its report to the State
\nGovernor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, who set up the commission.<\/p>\n
\nand declared proceedings at the commission of inquiry closed.<\/p>\n
\nEkiti affirmed the legality of the judicial commission of inquiry,
\nsaying the Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose had powers to run
\naffairs of his state and that he had exclusive rights to set up
\ncommission of inquiry without the prompting of the House of Assembly
\nand that he properly so acted.<\/p>\n

\nacted pursuant to Section 2 (1) of the Commission Inquiry Law Cap C10
\nLaws of Ekiti State. He dismissed all other reliefs seeking to set
