{"id":5325,"date":"2019-02-25T15:35:15","date_gmt":"2019-02-25T15:35:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/nigeria\/?p=5325"},"modified":"2019-02-25T15:35:15","modified_gmt":"2019-02-25T15:35:15","slug":"ekweremadu-returns-to-senate-for-record-fifth-time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/all-news\/ekweremadu-returns-to-senate-for-record-fifth-time","title":{"rendered":"Ekweremadu returns to Senate for record fifth time"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Deputy Senate president, Ike Ekweremadu has won the National Assembly election held on Saturday to continue as a lawmaker in the Senate.<\/p>\n<p>Ekweremadu who represents Enugu West Senatorial district has been at the federal upper legislative chamber since 2003.<\/p>\n<p>Ekweremadu polled 86,088 votes to beat his closest rival, Mrs. Juliet Ibekaku-Nwagwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who polled 15,187 votes.<\/p>\n<p>The Returning Officer, Prof Douglas Nwagbo of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) announced the results in Awgu on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Reacting to the victory on his twitter handle, the lawmaker said \u201cI was again returned in a landslide victory by the people of Enugu West. I polled a total of 86,088 votes to beat my closest rival, Mrs. Ibekaku-Nwagwu, of APC, who polled 15,187 votes. I\u2019m not taking this for granted.
