Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The President of the Philosophers Association of Nigeria (PAN), Prof Jim Ijenwa Unah, has called for inter-discipline collaboration among academics.<\/p>\n

Unah suggested basic education on morality and ethics for youths and students in school to help curb ignorance, which according to him is responsible for the social menace in the country.<\/p>\n

He said such will help in proffering solutions to multifaceted challenges confronting Nigeria.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the 2021 PAN international conference held at Ekiti State University (EKSU) Ado-Ekiti, he noted that there is a relationship among philosophy, medicine, engineering, and other professional disciplines.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe parent discipline is gradually being repositioned to take the center stage in calibrating the human condition, nevertheless philosophy cannot do it alone neither can any discipline do it alone, hence the call for a collaboration amongst discipline to save humanity,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Prof. Unah stated that the association has achieved its rebranding towards bringing creative critical thinking and moral character training to primary and secondary schools.<\/p>\n

\u201cMay I crave your indulgence to announce that PAN is today a full-fledged member of the International Federation of Philosophical Societies (FISP),\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The guest speaker at the event, Professor Isaac Ukpokolo advised Nigerians to prioritize education saying it is the most effective antidote for ignorance.<\/p>\n

Ukpokolo who is a Professor of Philosophy from the University of Ibadan (UI), while explaining the connections between Philosophy and Human Affairs defines philosophy as a discipline that deals with the area of the human person. i.e, how people see one another determines how they relate with each other (Human Affairs).<\/p>\n

\u201cIn order to solve some of the challenges of social decadence, we must see the human person as an agent of values and morals since violation of human perception is very evident in the society and is the cause of man\u2019s inhumanity to man,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The philosopher charged the media to echo the recommendation of university dons for the government to implement their lecture.<\/p>\n
