Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>A former Governor of Sokoto State and notable member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Attahiru Bafarawa, has officially announced his retirement from politics after 45 years.<\/p>\n

He governed Sokoto from 1999 to 2007<\/p>\n

Speaking in an interview with newsmen, the political heavyweight, who was a PDP presidential aspirant, said he would never contest for any elective office or accept a political appointment.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t have the political will for politics now unlike before. Now, I don\u2019t have that political will. I feel I have done my best based on the opportunity given to me and I am grateful for what God has done for me,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI will never go for any elective office for the rest of my life and I will never accept any appointment for the rest of my life. But I will always give my advice whenever it becomes necessary.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bafarawa said it is an \u201cabuse of privilege\u201d for someone who served as a governor to eye the National Assembly.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy would you serve eight years as governor of a state and then you come again and take one part of the state and say you are going to the National Assembly?<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter serving for eight years, why don\u2019t you allow others to go to the national assembly? As a former governor, the only thing you can look forward to is the presidency. Anything less than that is an abuse of privilege,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
