{"id":53898,"date":"2021-11-23T18:15:47","date_gmt":"2021-11-23T17:15:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/?p=53898"},"modified":"2021-11-23T17:54:29","modified_gmt":"2021-11-23T16:54:29","slug":"yobe-govt-announces-10-deduction-in-workers-salaries-to-boost-education","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/economy\/yobe-govt-announces-10-deduction-in-workers-salaries-to-boost-education","title":{"rendered":"Yobe govt announces 10% deduction in workers\u2019 salaries to boost education"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Yobe State Government has said that 10 percent of workers\u2019 basic salary for November would be deducted as their contribution to education recovery appeal fund.<\/p>\n<p>The Commissioner of Home Affairs, Information and Culture, Mohammed Lamin who is also the Chairman Sub-committee for Yobe Education Recovery Appeal Fund disclosed this on Monday in Damaturu while briefing newsmen.<\/p>\n<p>He said the devastating effects of Boko Haram insurgency in the state has compelled the state to embark on fund raising for education recovery in the state.<\/p>\n<p>The commissioner also made a passionate appeal to the Civil Servants whom he describe as major stakeholders to contribute 10% of their basic salaries towards achieving the set objective.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is imperative here to state that, educating our citizens is our collective responsibility as a people. In this regard, apart from reaching out to people outside, government feels that civil servants in the state should also give their modest contribution to the programme, by contributing 10% of their November 2021 basic salary to the scheme.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy this briefing, therefore, civil servants are informed that the deduction will be for only the month of November 2021\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Mohammed Lamin also explained that, it is no longer news that the decade-long insurgency has impacted negatively on the entire lives of the citizenry. \u201cThe devastating effect it has meted on the state\u2019s education system and structures is overwhelming and must attract the attention of any responsible government\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that this attracted the compassionate attention of Governor Mai Mala Buni to on assumption of office in 2019, declare state of emergency on education, after taking the oath of office.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGentlemen of the press, some of you have been in the state since the start of the ugly phenomenon called insurgency which has destroyed everything about our educational systems including the psyche of our children and parents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur communities are dotted with destroyed and devastated school aged children and parents with lukewarm attitude towards education.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSimilarly, records have not been favourable to the state on the national education index. Yobe has always occupied the low base on the education index. This is not an acceptable profile.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThus, the administration of his Excellency, Hon.
