Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Jigawa State Government has constituted a 31 member committee to fight drug abuse across the State.<\/p>\n

Secretary to the State Government, Adamu Abdulkadir Fanini inaugurated the committee at the state secretariat in Dutse.<\/p>\n

He said the Jigawa State Government is seriously concerned about the activities of youths who engage in drugs abuse, destroying their future.<\/p>\n

Fanini said the state government was committed to addressing the menace to ensure a brighter future for the state.<\/p>\n

He said the Committee is to work with the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and other security agencies in the fight against drugs abuse.<\/p>\n

The Chairman of the Committee who is also the Commissioner for Agriculture Muhammad Alhassan promised to justify the confidence reposed on them.<\/p>\n

The state government is worried that the level of drug abuse among youths in Northern Nigeria has become more alarming, posing a serious threat to the region\u2019s future.<\/p>\n

Reports say about 3 million codeine syrups are ingested daily in Northern Nigeria, the majority of which are taken in Kano and Jigawa.<\/p>\n
