Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Wife of the Zamfara State Governor, Aisha Bello Mohammed Matawalle has joined other women to protest against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in the state<\/p>\n

The protest is part of activities to mark the 16 Days of activism against violence against women and children in the state.<\/p>\n

The women had marched to the palace of Emir of Gusau and the Zamfara State Police Command as the main points for their advocacy.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the Emir\u2019s palace in Gusau, Aisha Bello said the walk was to demonstrate the commitments and concerns of the present administration in the fight against Gender-Based Violence.<\/p>\n

She expressed delight in reaching out to the Gusau monarch who she said is the epitome of the society\u2019s influencers.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a traditional leader you have a very strong role to play in eliminating violence, encouraging reporting of violence, and cautioning on the society\u2019s stigmatization of victims\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Responding, the Emir of Gusau Ibrahim Bello expressed appreciation for her efforts in reaching out with massive mobilization to end violence against women and children.<\/p>\n

The Governor\u2019s wife also paid a visit to the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ayuba Elkanah where she solicited his support in the fight against violence perpetrated against women and children in the state.<\/p>\n

The Police Commissioner, Ayuba Elkanah commended the first lady and her entourage for the visit which he described as a timely and welcome development, assuring of his total support to the campaign.<\/p>\n

\u201cI will do my best to ensure that anybody found committing the ugly offence must face the law, police in Zamfara will never compromise on any case of gender violence\u201d Elkanah explained\u201d<\/p>\n

While also speaking at the event, the Commissioner of Women and Children Affairs, Dr Rabi Ibrahim Shinkafi pledged the full collaboration of her ministry to the vision of protecting women and children against all forms of abuse.<\/p>\n
