Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Community Volunteer Guards, a security outfit established by the Benue State Government to tackle the deteriorating security situation is set to commence operations in January, 2022.<\/p>\n

Governor Samuel Ortom made the disclosure on Sunday, at the Chapel of Grace, Benue Peoples House Makurdi during an interdenominational thanksgiving service to mark the end of seven days fast and prayer for the peaceful selection of a new Och\u2019Idoma.<\/p>\n

According to the governor, the Community Volunteer Guards which had already kicked off in some local governments across the state will be equipped with lawful weapons to assist conventional security agents in safeguarding the State.<\/p>\n

While commending the Benue State chapter of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, for initiating the prayer session, Governor Ortom reiterated his position in ensuring equity, justice and fairness in the selection process, stating that \u201cI will not allow anyone to be shortchanged in the selection process\u201d<\/p>\n

State Chairman of CAN, Reverend Akpen Leva expressed belief that God will answer their prayers for a worthy Och\u2019Idoma to emerge and advised Benue State Government to organize a thanksgiving service to show appreciation to God for His numerous good deeds in the state.<\/p>\n

He called on the public to be vigilant during the 2021 yuletide season and be security conscious while celebrating.<\/p>\n

In an exaltation, Pastor Dave Ogbole said God is interested in kingship amongst men, stressing that \u201cthe concern of who becomes the new Och\u2019Idoma is of interest to God.\u201d<\/p>\n

He described Governor Ortom as being fortunate, as he is witnessing the enthronement of a new Tor-Tiv and Och\u2019Idoma under his tenure, even as he prayed God to anoint a man after His own heart.<\/p>\n

It will be recalled that the Benue State chapter of CAN had on Monday, 12th December, 2021, declared a seven days fast and prayer to seek God\u2019s guidance in the selection of a new Och\u2019Idoma.<\/p>\n

Governor Ortom had announced 30th December as the date for the selection of a new Och\u2019Idoma.<\/p>\n
