Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The leadership of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State has asked the National Reconciliation Committee to disregard whatever was contained in the petitions forwarded to it by the dissenting members of the party called \u201cThe Osun Progressives, TOP\u201d.<\/p>\n

The party, on Sunday, alleged that members of the group \u2013 The Osun Progressives, TOP \u2013 are already holding meetings with the opposition.<\/p>\n

The factional chairman of the APC in Osun, Rasaq Salinsile, had demanded that Governor Oyetola should resign from the National Caretaker and Extraordinary National Convention Planning Committee since he has declared his intention to contest for a second term as the State Governor.<\/p>\n

The group also demanded the validation of the ward, local and State congresses it conducted and that the party executives so elected be returned as valid.<\/p>\n

However, the APC, described TOP\u2019s prayer as self-serving, misleading and baseless, calling on the Committee to dismiss it in its entirety as it was meant to clandestinely destroy the corporate image of the party in the State.<\/p>\n

This was made known when the Committee met with the Stakeholders of the party at Government House, Osogbo.<\/p>\n

Responding to some of the issues raised by the factional group to the Reconciliation Committee, the Secretary, State Congress Committee, Sunday Akere, said the allegation of alienation of party leaders was false and way off from the truth.<\/p>\n

Akere said that the TOP as a group had constituted itself to be more vicious than the opposition.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey don\u2019t have respect for the Governor or the leadership of the party headed by Prince Gboyega Famodun. The manner in which they deride the programmes and achievements of the Governor shows clearly that some of them have made up their minds on leaving the party if they cannot get what they want.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey are already holding meetings with the opposition and a faction of the said opposition in the State now takes the responsibility of protecting and defending them as a matter of life and death.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe TOP members have no right whatsoever to dwell on issues that do not concern them as their demand for resignation of Mr. Governor from the APC National Caretaker Committee connotes,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
