Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, in Abia State has destroyed at least eight illegal modular refineries in Ukwa West Local Government Area of the state.<\/p>\n

This was disclosed by the state Commandant of the corps, Mr Ayinla Olowo, while speaking with newsmen in his office in Umuahia, the state capital.<\/p>\n

According to him, the development was achieved following the sustained efforts by the command to rid the entire state of illegal dealings in petroleum products.<\/p>\n

Recall that the command had in the last two weeks, destroyed 10 similar illegal facilities in the same area.<\/p>\n

Olowo revealed that the illegal refineries were destroyed by operatives of the Anti-vandal Unit of the command, codenamed \u201cOperation Sting\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe anti-vandal unit carried out an operation in Ukwa West on Feb. 5, to get rid of operators of illegal refineries in the area.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe operatives destroyed eight illegal refineries and disconnected all the pipes with which they siphoned products from the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation\u2019s pipelines.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy this act, we have succeeded in stopping their activities in the area,\u201d Olowo said.<\/p>\n
