Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Nigerian Postal Services, NIPOST has said the insecurity in the country is not affecting its operations, assuring that cargoes are being handled properly.<\/p>\n

Addressing newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday, the Postmaster General of Nigerian Postal services, NIPOST, Dr Ismail Adewusi, said although insecurity can be a challenge, some of its other challenges are competition from courier services, digitalizing which is being debated on.<\/p>\n

Adewusi in his remark at the maiden Pan African Postal Union, PAPU Operations and Technology Committee meetings in Abuja noted that although they are faced with competition, NIPOST is not against courier services but focused on digitizing postal services and partnering with courier services to break new grounds and serve Nigerians.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe truth of the matter is that the world is moving seriously to the global age and Africa global services cannot be left behind. You cannot doubt the importance of technology in postal services makes processes faster, quality of services improved and this will aid revenue.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat is happening in Nigeria is not peculiar to the country but every part of Africa, the issue of security is not limited to Nigeria but in spite of the challenges we have continued to move mails, parcels, cargoes.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe launched NIPOST card for more people to have access to financial services to join the new global trend and remain relevant.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are still working with local courier services to find ways to work together and have a win-win situation.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is no bound in technology especially in the postal sector, we\u2019re embracing technology because at this age we cannot do without it. Like I said this is the same reason we are partnering with courier service, not against them.<\/p>\n

\u201cNigeria is the chairman of the committee and we have the responsibility to look out for other African postal outlets to ensure that their postal services attain best global standards and acceptable practices,\u2019\u2019 Adewusi said.<\/p>\n

While addressing newsmen, Assistant Secretary-General of PAPU, Jessica Ssengooba from Uganda, said every sector in facing digital disruption and the postal sector has to live up to its responsibilities.<\/p>\n

\u201cAutomating postal services is necessary, we would come up with new products diversification of services too is very much needed.<\/p>\n

\u201c The major challenge we have is the global competition and we are involved in beneficial partnerships so that we can reach the last mile and ensure effective services,\u2019\u2019 she said.<\/p>\n
