Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>President Muhammadu Buhari has said he is deeply saddened to learn of the death of 29 persons in a tragic boat mishap in the Shagari River at Gidan Magana in Shagari Local Government Area of Sokoto State.<\/p>\n

The President in a statement mourning the victims also extended his heartfelt condolences to the families who lost loved ones in the devastating incident.<\/p>\n

He particularly called out the village head of Gidan Magana, Malam Muhammadu Auwal, who lost five of his children in the mishap.<\/p>\n

Pained by the sad incident, Buhari directed the Nigeria Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) to increase ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of riverine travel in the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cI commiserate with the government and people of Sokoto State, I also pray for the repose of the souls of the departed and divine comfort to the grieving families,\u201d the statement conveyed by his media aide, Garba Shehu added.<\/p>\n
