Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has opened up on his grouse towards former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, ex-National Assembly leaders, Bukola Saraki and Aminu Tambuwal.<\/p>\n

Wike, alongside Saraki, Atiku and Tambuwal is in the 2023 presidential race under the umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.<\/p>\n

The issue of zoning is generating confusion among members of the two leading political parties, the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the PDP, with Southern politicians insisting it is the turn of the region to take over from the outgoing administration led by a Northerner.<\/p>\n

Governor Wike said that when they agreed amongst themselves that 2019 was the turn of the North to produce President Muhammadu Buhari\u2019s challenger, the agreement was respected by Southerners.<\/p>\n

The Governor, however, said it was saddening that now it seems to be the turn of the South, some top politicians from the North, such as Atiku, Saraki, and even Tambuwal, who, according to him, he supported to become the Speaker of the House of Representatives and also backed to win the PDP ticket in 2019, have all come out against the gentlemen agreement.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s nobody contesting for the presidency from the north that I do not have a relationship with\u2026that I don\u2019t support,\u201d Wike told Channels.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd there\u2019s no one of them who has not come to me, Wike, and said, \u2018with you, I think I\u2019ll have my way\u2026but if you ask some of my friends, the problem I have with friendship is that if we agree on something, let\u2019s keep to it.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf there\u2019s any reason that it [such agreement] shouldn\u2019t be done, I should be let know. I can tell for example, Saraki is one intelligent young man Nigerians must have to listen to.<\/p>\n

\u201cBukola Saraki, with all due respect, but ask him, I was one of those who made sure he became a Senate President. He was in APC, right? But I stood firm and said \u2018look this young man is intelligent\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhether you hate him or you don\u2019t like him, this young man is intelligent and vibrant, why would you not allow such a person to be at the helm of affairs?<\/p>\n

\u201cMy friend Tambuwal, when he wanted to be Speaker, PDP never wanted him to be Speaker, but I was one of those who said no, you shouldn\u2019t do that\u2026even when he wanted to be President, I was one of those who said look, gentleman, this a vibrant young man, it doesn\u2019t matter.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe must do this by age and people were fighting from the North, South West and East. They all fought me asking \u2018why are you bringing Tambuwal? He\u2019s somebody that has all it takes to lead.<\/p>\n

\u201cI did not support Atiku for my reason that \u2018look, Atiku listen, the way your antecedents, your politics, and I don\u2019t think it\u2019s good for them. I supported Tambuwal. But he [Atiku] won.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to challenge anybody, any governor or person in this party who would say they gave Atiku the support I gave him [in 2019]. I can say that in the South South, it was only in my state that APC didn\u2019t get 25 percent.<\/p>\n

\u201cI came all out to support him. That time we said it was for the North and nobody came out from the South to say no. I feel bad when they say, \u2018this Northerner is following Wike\u2026 No one group can win an election without the other.<\/p>\n

\u201cNobody in the South can win an election without the North and nobody in the North can win an election without the South\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n
